Qualification day 2 in Monza: Radio failure and miscommunication

30-09-2012

Cedars had a bad qualification due to a combination of miscommunication and a track that is wet in most parts and dry in others.

The team started with the decision to go with wet tires as the track was mostly wet due to steady rain all through the night. Add to this that F3 qualifications were the first to begin at 9 in the morning. So no other race dried up the track. Noel and Moises were doing good. Noel holding on P4 throughout the first 10 minutes. And Moises alternating between P8 and 10 and the 1st and 2nd in the Class C category on the dallara F308.

The team then took the decision to shift to dry (slick) tires for faster laps. Moises came first for change. Noel a lap later. Baring in mind that Noel didn't have to change his tires the first time cause his wet tires were able to cool off after he went off the track due to a corner spin and most drivers were going in the pit for a change into slick. So Noel's tires were almost fresh like others who changed their tires.

But a radio failure miscommunication made our pilots continue running on dry tires, while they should have changed to wet ones like all other teams did.

The result was a big delay and loss in positioning.

Moises finished 11th in general 6th in class C, and Noel arrived 17th,
